OUR STORY
Hopwood Fire Dept.is nestled along the foothills of
the allegheny mountains in Fayette Co. SW Pa.in the
village of Hopwood. Started in 1939 as a engine and
hose company, the department has since expanded its
services to include both engine and rescue company
services. There is word of an un-official, "fire
brigade", that existed in the town prior to 1939, but
our current department's origins are linked to '39.
Originally a one engine department, the current
department utilizes 2 engines, 1 quick attack/mini
pumper, 1 rescue truck, and a brush unit. The
department provides service to approximately 10,000
residents in Hopwood and surrounding area, which is
approximately 25 square miles. Our department has 20
personal, and another 10 retired from service, (honor
roll members). Our response district is a suburban
areas with a mix of residential, mercantile, and
commercial/manufactory areas, along with a portion of a
state forest in our southeastern most area. The
department runs a wide variety of calls. The calls
range from structural fires to vehicle extrications and
wild land fires to vast number of other types of alarms.
The personnel are cross-trained in both fire suppression
and rescue practices. The department provides mutual
aid services with both our rescue company and engine
company to neighboring municipalities.
